The Brightest Stars in Hurling are Coming to Cork

Community Hurling Event to take place on 17th May with Patrick Horgan and Seán Óg Ó hAilpín

7th May 2014

This year, Centra celebrates their fifth year as sponsor of the GAA Hurling All-Ireland Senior Championship and throughout the summer, Ireland’s largest convenience retailer are bringing together the brightest stars of hurling for fun community events in GAA clubs all-round the country.

The second of 16 family events will be in Clonakilty GAA Club, Cork, on Saturday 17th May, with the county’s rising star, Patrick Horgan and hurling legend Seán Óg Ó hAilpín, on hand to give bright young stars from local Cork clubs the chance to develop their game and learn from the best! These community events will continue each weekend for the next four months, visiting counties such as Waterford, Kilkenny, Dublin and Kildare.

There will be plenty of fun to be had on the day as Centra aims to bring the whole community together through a special hurling skills session and a host of family entertainment including face painting, a hurling simulator to test your hurling skills, music and goodie bags. Cork 96FM will also be on site with a live outside broadcast adding to the atmosphere on the day.

This family fun event is supported by the following participating Centra stores; Hennessy’s Centra Ballineen, Collins’ Centra Drimoleague, Scally’s Centra Clonakilty, Hegarty’s Centra Ballinspittle, O’Donovan’s Centra Enniskeane, Hegarty’s Centra Schull, Dineen’s Centra Ballingeary, O’Leary’s Centra Bandon, O’Reilly’s Centra Rosscarbery, O’Leary’s Centra New Road, Bandon, Fuller’s Centra Union Hall, Dromey’s Centra Ballymakeera, Galvin’s Centra Dunmanway, Andrew’s Centra Bantry, Foley’s Centra Timoleague, O’Sullivan’s Centra Inishannon and Cronin’s Centra Ballylickey.

To sign up for the event, register instore in one of the participating Centra stores. Closing date for entries is Friday 9th May. The event commences at 10am on Saturday 17th May in Clonakilty GAA Club. The hurling skills session is open to boys and girls of all standards from ages five to twelve.

On the day of the event, Centra will be on the hunt for the Brightest Young Star of the day, with a few lucky children getting the opportunity to be questioned by their hurling heroes! The child with the best hurling knowledge and the funniest and quirkiest answers will be crowned Centra’s Brightest Young Star of Cork and will be in with a chance to win an incredible trip for their family to the All-Ireland Hurling final.

Centra, at the heart of communities throughout Ireland with 465 stores nationwide, is continuing to work with the GAA to promote and develop the game of hurling for all ages right across the country; in both developing and well established hurling counties.
