 Tadhg MacCárthaigh GAA News 18/2/13.

On Saturday week last 9th Feb the club held  their Victory Dinner Dance at the West Cork Hotel in Skibbereen. This turned out to be a great social occasion and night of celebration when the Junior ‘A' West Cork Championship and League medals won so dramatically during the season just past, were presented to the entire panel of players.

Guest of honour for the night was John Corcoran, Chairman of the West Cork Board who gave an excellent speech in both Irish and English and again stressed the importance of the GAA in rural Communities like Caheragh where it is such a vital part of the Social fabric. John then presented the much sought after West Cork medals. Runai of the West Cork Board, Donal Leahy, a Caheragh clubman and former Secretary, launched the new club website on the night and this is well worth a visit with many new and interesting features.

Chairman Finbarr Hourihane then addressed the large gathering and gave a wide ranging speech where he thanked all those who contribute to the running of the club and who generally work behind the scenes.

President Jim Russell presented the Fr.Michael O Donovan Perpetual Cup to the minor player of the year, Brian O Driscoll and also the most improved minor player award to Brett Cleary, two very worthy recipients indeed.

Junior Captain Colm O Driscoll and Vice Captain Mark Barrett then made special presentations to the Selectors Gene O Driscoll, Kieran Daly and Niall Murray in recognition of the huge amount of work they put in during an unforgettable season.

The West Cork Hotel served up a beautiful meal and with the formalities over, a great night of entertainment was had by all.

Thoughts now switch to the new season and the under 21 footballers will be first into Championship action on the 16th March when they play the winners of Ibane Gaels v Muintir Bhaire in the Quarter final. The Junior A league also kicks off in March with the first game fixed for 10th in Aughaville against Urhan.
