Caheragh Ladies suffer heartbreaking defeat in County Final 2015-09-17 15:15:00

The Tadhg MacCarthaigh ladies played Castlemagner in the junior C county championship final last Saturday in Macroom. In perfect playing conditions the team started slowly but despite the concession of two early goals fought back strongly before half time and thanks to two goals from Aileen McCarthy lead by one point at the break. The second half was played in a welter of excitement with the lead changing on several occassions, Caheragh were behind by two points with full time approaching when they were awarded a penalty which was expertly converted by Aoife McCarthy to take the lead again. The addition of six minutes of injury time saw Castlemagner kick two points to snatch victory. This was a cruel defeat for the girls who had played some superb football and contributed to a high quality game, however they can be very proud of getting to the final with a lot of very young players. The season is not over yet, as they will now play in the West Cork Championship.

The minor team are due to play four games over the next week due to a back log of fixtures arising from the club’s involvement in the Junior final.
