Fundraising
Appeal.
A fundraising appeal
has been launched by Argideen Rangers GAA club, Timoleague for Paudie Crowley
and Jack Long.
Seven year old Paudie
is the son of John and Jennifer Crowley of Scottsville, New York. Last month he was diagnosed with
neuroblastoma, stage 4, a rare high risk childhood cancer. He is being treated
at present at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre in New York City and faces months of
chemotherapy and a lengthy hospital stay. John and Jennifer who have two other
children, take turns to be with Paudie. A long commute from home and overnight
accommodation has been standard practice over the last four weeks.
John needs no
introduction to GAA followers as he is one of the five Crowley brothers of Skeaf who starred for Argideen
in football and hurling during the success filled 1990âs. John also lined out
for Carbery in both codes before joining his older brother Ted in Boston fourteen years
ago.
Jack Long is the son of Alan and Karen of
Chapel Ave. Timoleague and was born on the 24th. of August last.
Baby Jack was only 24
hours old when he was air lifted to a hospital in Sweden, the only one of its kind in
Europe, to treat a congenital heart defect. On
his return to Our Ladyâs Hospital, Crumlin, little Jack had to undergo major
open heart surgery. His mother is at his bed side constantly since his birth
and Alan travels to Dublin
each week-end to be with them both.
Alan is goalkeeper for
Argideen Rangers Junior football team and is also well known as a referee. He
has officiated at West-Cork Junior Football finals and has also taken charge of
Intermediate and Senior football games through out the county.
As both John Crowley
and Alan Long and their families have given so much to Argideen Rangers GAA,
the club now wants to do its part to help ease the considerable financial worry
that both are now enduring.
Both families have wide contacts within many
local GAA clubs and this was very evident at the official launch which took
place in Timoleague on Monday night last. Jack Longâs grandfather, Paki Murphy
was in attendance as was his son Denis who stars for Clonakilty in both
football and hurling. The Crowley
family were represented by Marie OâBrien accompanied by her son Tadgh and her
daughter Meave who are active members of the Valley Rovers club. The Newcestown
colours were sported by Carmel Kenneally and her daughter Maria. Tony Crowley
together with his daughter, Isobelle and twin boys, Joe and James wore the
maroon and white of Argideen Rangers. While there is a healthy sporting rivalry
between these clubs, yet the greater GAA family puts sporting differences aside
at times like this and unite for two brave little warriors on both sides of the
Atlantic.
There will be a family
fun day in Timoleague on Sat. Oct. 11th. A 5km. fun run/walk will take place at
2pm. followed by a coffee
evening with childrenâs entertainment in the Community Hall. That night there
will be table quizes in Charlie Maddenâs, Pad Joeâs and Monkâs Lane beginning
at 9.30pm. To book a table
contact Noel Drake at (086)2794315.
Also an Argideen Rangers GAA Club Fundraising
Deposit Account has been opened at The AIB in Bandon. The sort code is 93-40-46 and the
account number is 27435110 for those who wish to be associated with
this very worthy cause.
